Two Ottawa Family Businesses Band Together to Help Protect Essential Workers and the Public

May 4, 2020

Terlin Construction and VPC have joined forced to create a new company—EzGardTM—that has developed a full line of protective shields designed to help reduce exposure and cross-contamination. This includes counter-top and desk-top versions that are ideal for the protection of cashiers, clerks, estheticians, receptionists and others interacting with colleagues and/or the public, as well as an innovative automotive version—the RideShieldTM—that was developed with taxi and ride-share drivers and their passengers in mind.

At the outset of the pandemic, Terlin’s in-house millwork shop was called upon by a number of retail clients and several government agencies to manufacture Plexiglas shields for installation in locations across Canada. This led Terlin’s father-son duo of Terry and Lindsey McLaughlin to want to offer these shields more widely. They got in touch with another father-son duo, Allan and Graham Blue from VPC, to tap into their expertise with distribution via Amazon. And hence EzGard was born. The company has since developed six products in the past four weeks and have shipped them all across North America.

“Necessity is the mother of invention, and we saw a real need for innovative ways to protect essential workers,” said Terry McLaughlin. “Working together on this with my son, as well as Allan and Graham, has been truly inspiring.”

EzGard’s full line of products is featured on the company’s website www.ez-gard.ca.
